Rise and shine

Warm-up:
push-ups
reverse crunches

5x5 bench press
KL (2x135, 135[f5], 3x115)
GF (5x135)

5x5 weighted pullup
KL (20, 25, 30[f5], 25[f5], 20)
GF (20, 25, 30, 25, 20)

Trying to get back into a morning routine. Haven't benched in forever, felt a lot of weakness/tightness in my shoulders. Managed to drag G out for the morning, he held up quite well...

lol. I thought the plan was legs! What happened to the sprinting and squats???

Squat rack still off limits, we were going to sprint after lifting but ran out of time.

I'm thinking tabata front squats next time though...

That sounds brutal. I tried tabata back squats a while ago. Those were pretty tough.

Tabata squats sound great (in the sense that this is the kind of thing I need, and thus it will be quite painful).

I liked the mixing of bench press and weighted pull ups, but it moves a bit slowly. I wonder if we could't find another combination with similar benefits but that would move faster.

hard to do with 5x5 bench, especially with spotting required.

a good alternative is to multiple rounds with weighted pullups and bodyweight pushups, no rest in between.

there's a great deadlift/pushup combo too.

Hey Brian, what's your rationale behind floor pressing and not benching?

brian said...

I floor press when I can't find a bench to move into the power rack. This happens frequently because people steal the benches to curl on in my gym.

That's an entirely legitimate reason, can't disrupt all that productive curling...

Holy crap, everything hurts now. As the day went on, I was increasingly in pain, my entire upper body is stiff. I am really out of shape...

Hey, you lifted more than me, man...
